Spend a day with one of the most knowledgeable pundits in the world of digital technology, Christopher Breen. Mr.Breen is Senior Editor and columnist at Macworld magazine, an author of technology books, a trainer for the very popular online tutorial website, Lynda.com…and he’s a professional musician!

He’s coming to Honolulu just for Mactoberfest to share his unique, entertaining perspectives on the latest OS X Lion, the imminent iCloud and iOS 5, the best of his Mac 911 troubleshooting tips, plus show us how we can create music using an iPad and Garageband. Have a question about using your Mac or iOS device? Chances are, Christopher Breen knows the answer.

Everyone is welcome. Bring your iPad or laptop. You can Create! Learn how to make music, paint pictures, take photos, build slide shows, and have fun with your Apple hardware and software.

10:15 Use Your Apple to Release Your Inner Artist – Quick fire previews of tools to create with – Garageband, iPad Painting and Drawing, Portraits & Slideshows and Mobile Apps. Pick one to try in the afternoon session.

Garageband
– Chris Breen and two members of the New Hope iPad Band with help you learn a Garageband instrument and play a simple song together.
iPad and iPhone Drawing and Painting – artist Mike Harada will show you how to use the Brushes app to create a work of art – with your fingers!
Shoot and Share – Terry Takaki gives portrait lighting and positioning tips, then you will practice with each other. Finally, edit the portraits and create a slideshow or album in iPhoto with Ross Rasmussen.
iOS Apps- Jerome Koehler shares cool apps and tips for your iPhone and iPad. Then he’ll build a Keynote presentation with you and play it directly from his iPad.

Presenters


Christopher Breen
– Christopher Breen has been writing about Apple and technology since the latter days of the Reagan Administration for such publications as MacUser, MacWEEK, and Macworld. Breen, a senior editor for Macworld, currently pens Macworld’s popular tips and troubleshooting column, Mac 911 and hosts the Macworld Podcast. He’s the author of many books including The iPhonePocket Guide and The iPod Touch Pocket Guide (Peachpit Press) and has produced a number of video training titles for Lynda.com. When not engaged in journalistic endeavors he works as a musician in the San Francisco Bay Area.


Michael Harada
B.F.A., M.F.A. is an artist and an art instructor at Leeward Community College. Mike is excited by the kind of tactile experience and flexibility possible with the iPad and iPhone drawing and painting apps.

Terry Takaki is a Tamron Representative, TMC & Associates and a Professional Photographers of Hawaii Fellow. He is a professional photographer and teaches beginning photography through the DOE at Kaimuki Adult School.  

Ross Rasmussen is a Macintosh aficionado and iLife, iWork and basic Macintosh instructor, Ross is known for his relaxed approach, which makes learning fun and makes the time fly. He teaches everything Macintosh at the Windward School for Adults.  

Jerome Koehler is an Apple Solutions Consultant from Best Buy Aiea and a former Apple Store Genius. He has presented workshops for HMAUS on Mac OS, iLife and cool mobile apps.  

New Hope iPad Band Members will help us out during our workshop.
